Doug and Katie’s journey began in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, where their shared passion for agriculture led them to Olds College. With diplomas in hand and a dream in their hearts, they set down roots in Bentley in 2006, starting from scratch with just a quarter section of land and 15 cows. What began as a small, first-generation operation—Dun Rite Stock and Stables—has grown into a testament to their hard work, perseverance, and love for the land.
Every step of their journey has been about growth, both personal and professional. Doug and Katie have poured their hearts into Dun Rite, always striving to innovate, improve, and push the boundaries of what’s possible. Their philosophy is simple yet powerful: "Take charge of your solution versus getting stuck in the problem." This mindset is at the core of everything they do, driving how they identify challenges and find solutions to move forward, grow their operation, and make things better every day.
Today, their operation is a blend of both purebred Angus and commercial cattle, producing not only finished beef for consumers but also high-quality commercial bred heifers known for their maternal traits. They background calves, build their herd, and breed with purpose, knowing each decision impacts the future of their operation. Every choice they make is rooted in their commitment to continuous improvement and forward-thinking strategies.
At the heart of their success is a deep commitment to forage production. Doug and Katie have worked tirelessly to expand their land base, always with a focus on improving both the quantity and quality of their forage. This dedication has allowed them to steadily grow their herd and backgrounding capacity, ensuring their animals are well-fed and healthy, year after year.
